Neighborhood Environmental Action Team (N.E.A.T.)
The City of Modesto's Neighborhood Environmental Action Team (N.E.A.T.) program is a fun, educational and worthwhile opportunity for you, your organization or your business to gain city-wide recognition while helping save taxpayer dollars. You can help beautify our community by adopting and caring for a N.E.A.T. area.
There are several ways you can care for a N.E.A.T. area.
You may:
Aside from your own satisfaction, volunteer efforts that qualify for long term maintenance agreements will be recognized by the City of Modesto.
You or your group can remove litter from an assigned N.E.A.T. area. If needed, the City will provide garbage bags to help you in your work. The debris can be placed in the garbage bags and left curbside for removal by City staff.
As with litter removal, you or your group will be assigned a specific N.E.A.T. area to keep free of weeds. If needed, the City will provide garbage bags to help get the work done. The gathered weeds can be placed in the garbage bags and left curbside for pickup by City staff.
After training by City staff, horticultural volunteers prune and plant shrubbery in an assigned N.E.A.T. area. Pruning can, as noted previously, be placed in the garbage bags provided by the City and left for City pickup.
Tagging volunteers keep their N.E.A.T. area free of tagging by painting over it or removing it with special paint removers. Usually, entire walls are painted to eliminate the "patchwork" look. If needed, the City will provide paint and paint supplies, such as brushes and rollers. tagging should be removed within ten days of notification.
