New Downtown Multi-Use Sports and Entertainment Venue Proposed

A local group is proposing a multi-use sports and entertainment venue downtown. Ballparkdigest.com published an article on December 30, 2021 discussing the proposal.

A sports venue is one of the potential elements in the approved Downtown Modesto Master Plan and is sure to generate much public discussion around possible City and County large-scale investment.

The proposed development would be located on a four-block parcel between 10th and 12th and D and F streets, and replace John Thurman Field. The proposal envisions the City and County owning the property, with operations managed by the Seattle Mariners organization, the owners of the Modesto Nuts.

In addition to minor league baseball, the new venue would be designed to accommodate soccer, football, concerts and other events in a modern plaza-style design. The estimated cost for the project ranges between $85 and $122 million, with funded expected to be provided by private investment and local bonds.
